JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

~Provides services in speech pathology in accordance with the American Speech & Hearing Association’s scope of practice guidelines.

~Assists the educational team in the development of or revision to the child’s IEP.

~Records and documents all sessions according to the requirements of NY State Education Department.

~Recommends additional testing as needed, including audiological.

~Develops and submits required documentation, including Annual Reviews reports, Quarterly Reports, and IEP goals updates.

~Regularly evaluates and assesses the efficacy of the treatment and service delivery plan in place for the child, and recommends changes or revisions to the IEP as needed.

~Conduct comprehensive evaluations and assessments to diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals across different age groups.

~Develop individualized treatment plans and goals based on assessment results, client needs, and evidence-based practice.

~Provide direct speech-language therapy services to clients, utilizing a variety of therapeutic techniques and approaches to improve communication and swallowing skills.

~Design and implement therapy sessions targeting specific speech and language goals, such as articulation, phonology, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, social communication, and pragmatics.

~Use specialized assessment tools, observations, and clinical judgment to track progress, modify therapy approaches, and evaluate outcomes.

~Collaborate with clients, families, caregivers, and other professionals to establish effective communication strategies and support carryover of therapy goals into daily life.

~Provide counseling and education to clients, families, and caregivers regarding communication disorders, treatment strategies, and techniques to facilitate progress outside of therapy sessions.

~Integrate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and assistive technology to enhance communication abilities for individuals with severe speech and language impairments.

~Conduct dysphagia assessments and implement appropriate interventions to address swallowing difficulties, collaborating with healthcare teams as needed.

~Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including session notes, progress reports, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.

~Stay current with advancements in speech-language pathology through professional development activities, research, and continuing education.

~Adhere to ethical guidelines and maintain confidentiality in all aspects of client care.

~Collaborate with insurance companies and billing departments to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement for services provided.

~Advocate for individuals with communication disorders, ensuring access to appropriate services, resources, and accommodations.

~Maintain a compassionate and patient-centered approach when working with clients, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.

  • State licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) preferred.

  • Previous experience working as a Speech-Language Pathologist, preferably in a clinical or educational setting.

  • Knowledge of communication disorders, speech and language development, and evidence-based therapeutic techniques.

  • Familiarity with a variety of assessment tools, treatment materials, and AAC devices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, families, and other professionals.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities to develop individualized treatment plans.

  • Proficiency in documenting client sessions and maintaining accurate records.

  • Understanding of and commitment to ethical guidelines and confidentiality.

  • Flexibility to adapt therapy approaches to meet individual client needs.

  • Passion for helping individuals with communication disorders reach their full potential and improve their quality of life.
